Mayur South Asian Student Association Branding

Mayur SASA is CMU's largest South Asian non-profit organization. Notably and most recently as Design Chair, I redesigned the main club logo, as well as created a new marketing campaign for 2023 Diwali.

2020-2024

New Logo

One of the issues we faced over the years, was retention of male members on Mayur board. We aimed this year to market ourselves to be more gender inclusive and diverse— rather than having the impression of only a Hindu, women-run organization. "Mayur" means peacock, so we decided to keep shades of blue with white accents for the logo, giving us a universal appeal.

Hoodie Merchandise

This year I designed new hoodies for all of board members, with customized role names under the front pocket logo. We chose a royal blue color based on the budget, and the online size and product availability. The back of the hoodie features a variation of the peacock logo, with a minimalistic, yet elegant line graphic.

Social Media Posts

Below are some Instagram posts and story designs I made to market various events like our general body meetings. We've had an increase of 100+ followers by the end of the Fall 2023 Semester!

Mayur SASA Diwali 2023 Event Branding

Diwali is an Indian celebration and festival of lights, and Mayur SASA hosts a large scale, yearly event with catered buffet food, a DJ, student dance performances, photo booths, and an open dance floor. This event takes months of planning, and needed a culturally appropriate and visually attractive branding. I developed a sub brand identity for the event, based on the main Mayur brand colors, and also took into consideration the decor feasible for our budget. Below are some presentation slides summarizing my ideas for the event.

Instagram Interactive Story Posts

To build up hype and excitement for our event, I interviewed members of Mayur Board to curate quotes about why they enjoyed previous Mayur SASA Diwalis. I then generated a series of cohesive instagram stories that we posted (one each day) and tagged featured people, to attract more views and have a recognizable identity. People loved sharing their stories!

All Hands on Deck Working Sessions

Here are some process timelapses and reels we filmed to document our full board working sessions. During these meetings, I delegated the simple and intuitive craft tasks for people to help with. I taught people efficient ways of cutting and painting, and constructed the main cardboard photo booths, as well as other cardboard icons to line the performance stage with. These collaborative sessions were really fun, and memorable team bonding experiences!

Event Outcome: Max Capacity

We had a huge turnout with 700+ people purchasing tickets, and many people trying to get into the event last minute because they were persuaded by the hype our design campaign generated. The social gratitude pin-up experiment was slow at first, but people started adding more notes in waves, once they were influenced by seeing others participate and having fun with the comments. It was great to see visible proof and feedback about what people enjoyed about our event!
