Broadband Connectivity Campaign
BRIEF
Broadband commonly refers to high-speed internet access that is always on, which is faster than the traditional dial-up access. 15% of U.S. households with school-age children do not have a high-speed internet connection, which is essential to learn and gain exposure to online educational resources. I created a campaign that helps to raise awareness and get people to petition for equal broadband access for children.

OVERVIEW
My concept is that the internet is a digital jungle. Just like a jungle has various plants, types of wood, flowers, fruit, and other natural resources for survival, the Internet is a vast place of unlimited access to articles, posts, blogs, research, and books. It offers an endless possibility for students to search, learn, and explore, growing their skill sets. With my campaign video, I portray the feelings evoked in children who do have internet access, because they can imagine a world of possibility, whereas the children without connectivity, cannot imagine.

Storyboard Ideas
Here are some storyboard sketches of my initial ideas while also incorporating parts of a written script. I focused on the important words and phrases that could be it's own frame and emphasize it's importance.

Next Iteration
In the second iteration, I explored different ways to communicate a teacher leading students in a forest of "information". Some visuals I thought to include were leaves holding scrolling information and resources that the students push through in the forest.

Version 3
The third version storyboard took ideas from the first two and illustrates a different pacing of the scenes with the intro being more literal of the viewer "hopping into the computer screen".

Adding Color
In the fourth iteration, I decided to lean more on the traditional jungle imagery and juxtapose moments of a colored jungle, versus a black slide signifying the experience of a student with the lack of internet access. I roughly sketched blocks of shapes and animals like toucans, elephants, and snakes.

Exploring Visual Styles
I tried a more formal and clean look to my visual imagery, and switched the illustrative style to vector animals and shapes. However, after critique, I decided to stick with my original handwritten typefaces and a chalk/sketchy drawn imagery. This helped to enhance the storytelling, the message, and the whimsical feel rather than having a visual language giving off a "corporate", "serious" tone.
